16-month online training program for helping professionals
Are you a helping professional who works with couples (or wants to)? Do you sometimes find yourself feeling uneasy or ill-equipped to address sexuality? Would you like to enhance your skills and explore this intricate, complex, and sacred facet of human expression?
Our Certificate Training isn’t just a program; it’s a gateway to becoming a sexually informed professional.
Sexuality is a vital aspect of human life and a central element in many intimate relationships. Yet, even experienced relationship therapists often tread lightly—or avoid entirely—this sensitive terrain, worried about overstepping or making mistakes. But our role is to provide a safe space where clients can explore every part of their inner and relational worlds—including sex.
The Mindful Relationship Sex Therapy Certificate is an empowering journey designed to instill confidence in navigating the delicate realm of sexual issues within long-term relationships. It equips you with the skills, experiential activities, and mindful methodology necessary to address the spectrum of challenges partners face, including “low” or discrepant desire, shame, power struggles, performance anxiety, infidelity, and more.

Mindful, Somatic, Process-Oriented, and Experiential
These words describe the Passion & Presence® approach (and how we teach)
The body offers avenues to healing that go deeper than words alone.
Passion & Presence® relies on the body’s wisdom to guide the process, using the felt sense as a bridge to early imprints partners encode around sexuality, pleasure, connection, and self-expression.
Instead of analyzing and reflecting, Passion & Presence® practitioners activate the core pattern and explore it in real time.
The approach goes beyond discussion and reflection by offering ways to bring the issue “into the room” to study the unconscious dynamics shaping each partner’s experience.
Mindfulness offers a new paradigm for helping professions emphasizing exploration rather than treatment.
The state of Mindfulness also has many eros-enhancing benefits.
We don’t know where we are heading until we get there.
Passion & Presence® recognizes that transformation is an iterative process of uncovering the next piece…and the next. Each discovery informs the path forward, which means, like good sex, it’s wildly creative and unpredictable.
We aren’t “fixers,” and we don’t treat disorders. We are curious, accepting, and non-pathologizing.
We explore the unconscious beliefs and emotional learning contributing to sexual difficulties with Mindfulness and Somatic Interventions.
The sexual relationship (what’s working; what’s not), relationship dynamics (how partners address their difficulties), and the “Hidden Factors” (imprints that inhibit creativity, pleasure, and expression)
It is rare to find a professional training that offers both profound personal and spiritual growth alongside deep clinical skill building. The Passion and Presence professional training gave me both, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn directly from Maci, who so fully embodies this model inside and out.
Her wealth of knowledge, wisdom, expertise, and lived experience bring a sense of aliveness and sacredness to the program that is truly unique. I highly recommend this training to anyone—whether seasoned in sex therapy or brand new to the field. You will discover invaluable tools and treasures within this transformative program.
The Passion and Presence course has been a transformative journey for me. I joined to deepen my practice of mindfulness and somatics and to grow more confident in addressing sexual matters with clients, but I gained so much more.
The program revealed how unexamined wounds shape our sexual identities, while also opening me to the understanding that eros is a spiritual doorway to pleasure, vitality, and healing across the lifespan.
The combination of knowledge, practice, and compassion offered here is invaluable. I continue to feel its impact in my personal life and in the way I support the individuals and couples I work with.
Because of this training, my work with clients has transformed. I now move at a slower, more mindful pace that allows subtle vulnerabilities to surface—especially around sexuality. I see couples becoming more curious and compassionate about their challenges, shifting from defensiveness into presence, empathy, and attunement. This has led to levels of healing and closeness they had not imagined possible.
For me personally, the training has given me greater confidence, knowledge, and skill in addressing sexuality in all its forms. It has also deepened my own awareness of barriers to full sexual expression and brought greater ease in communicating with my partner. The impact has been both professional and profoundly personal.
Maci’s depth of knowledge and experience in somatic-oriented body psychotherapy, sexology, Internal Family Systems, neurobiology, and the Polyvagal Theory are beautifully interwoven into a compassionate and supportive model. Her approach offers guidance for partners—whether two or more—on their lifelong journey, at any age from 20 to 90 and beyond.
What a refreshing counterbalance to the narrow cultural narratives around what sexuality “should” be.
Thank you, Maci!
What surprised me about the Passion and Presence model was how in-depth and comprehensive it is. This is not your typical sex therapy training. Instead, it opens a pathway to discovering one’s full vitality—not only in sexuality, but in every aspect of life and relationships.
Maci so beautifully illuminates the “barriers” to our Pure Erotic Potential (PEP). This PEP encompasses far more than sexuality; it is our vitality and life energy, the foundation of who we are, and what fuels our creativity, passions, and purpose.
By entering through mindful sexuality, the model helps us uncover protective strategies, traumas, family and societal influences, shame, marginalization, and other hidden obstacles to living our fullest life. It is truly a holistic and transformative approach.

Twelve Segments Consisting of One-Four Sessions Each.
All Sessions Meet from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm (Eastern, USA) Check your time zone here.
In this opening segment, we introduce the foundational principles of Passion & Presence® using a mindful, experiential, and somatic framework.
We’ll examine how internal models of sexuality influence clients’ behaviors and how adopting a sex-positive perspective can reframe narratives of dysfunction into opportunities for connection, healing, and growth. You will learn to cultivate a compassionate, curious therapeutic presence that creates emotional safety and supports exploration of the implicit experiences shaping sexuality.
In the second segment of our training, we explore how consciousness shapes our erotic reality.
You’ll learn to recognize the subtle yet powerful effects of the “familiarity trance”—the numbness or disconnection that can arise in long-term relationships. Through the practice of mindful presence and the art of Seeing Fresh, you’ll gain tools to help intimate partners awaken from this trance and rediscover eros with renewed curiosity, vitality, and emotional depth.
Skills: Seeing Fresh, Erotic Mapping, Mindful Touch, Catch & Release Technique
In this third segment, you’ll learn how to turn common erotic impasses into opportunities for meaningful growth and deeper intimacy.
Through guided practices, you’ll support partners in identifying and sharing the often-hidden vulnerabilities that lie beneath their conflicts—creating space for mutual understanding and shared ownership of their erotic life. By bringing mindful awareness to their reactive states, you’ll help partners cultivate greater empathy, emotional attunement, and a more cooperative erotic bond—one where even tension becomes a pathway to connection.
Guest Speaker: Halko Weiss, Ph.D., Author, Hakomi Founder, and Creator of the Reciprocal Interaction Loop (RIL).
Although we often associate sex with joy and pleasure, for many people, it can also awaken old wounds and stir uncomfortable emotions or sensations.
In this fourth training segment, you’ll explore methods to support clients in rebuilding trust in their embodied wisdom. A particular focus will be on how trauma can shape partner sex—affecting both individuals and the relational field—and how to shift from isolation to collaboration by approaching sex as a team. You’ll learn how to help clients uncouple “now” from “then,” using somatic interventions and Memory Reconsolidation techniques to heal the past and create new, empowering experiences in the present.
Skills: Response-agility, the 5S’s, Mindful Self-Study, Planting Hearts, Befriending, Tracking the Charge, Pendulation, Using Resource Scales.
In this fifth training segment, we explore the most common issue that brings intimate partners into sex therapy: low desire.
Using a bio-psycho-social lens, we’ll examine the complex interplay of factors that can dampen desire—including relational dynamics, psychological influences, cultural messaging, and gender disparities. You’ll learn what current science reveals about pleasure and desire, and how to help partners move from frustration to hope by discovering collaborative, empowering pathways back to Eros.
In this segment, we’ll explore the many forms affairs can take—and how relationships can heal not by fixating on the affair itself, but by rebuilding intimacy and trust.
You’ll learn to guide partners through the three stages of recovery, offering a clear framework for long-term healing. We’ll examine the deeper meanings of betrayal and introduce interventions to help couples repair emotional wounds, restructure their relationship agreements, and redefine their future—one rooted in mutual insight, honesty, and growth.
Guest Presenters: TBA
This class equips you to support intimate partners navigating the complexities of ethical non-monogamy (ENM).
You’ll develop skills to facilitate open and respectful communication, gain insights into common emotional and relational challenges, and learn practical strategies for guiding clients through various stages of their ENM journey. Through case studies, experiential exercises, and concrete tools, you will enhance your ability to help clients navigate complexity, strengthen communication, and create relational agreements grounded in clarity, consent, and mutual care.
Guest Presenters: TBA
In this eighth training segment, you’ll learn to help partners step into a more expansive, curious, and courageous exploration of their erotic lives.
You’ll gain tools to support clients in bridging arousal differences, unpacking aversions, and expressing desire with authenticity, playfulness, and care. Together, we’ll explore how to awaken curiosity about the many forms Eros can take, give voice to longings often left unspoken, and tend to the shame that too often silences desire. You’ll discover empowering ways to guide partners in reclaiming exiled aspects of their erotic selves and fostering a more embodied, vulnerable, and connected intimacy—one that embraces the full spectrum of human desire.
This segment examines the often-overlooked, yet powerful micro moments where inclusion, safety and trust are either built or compromised—from a client’s first visit to your website or waiting room, to the deeply personal conversations that unfold in session.
Through a process of guided self-reflection, we’ll explore implicit bias, examine the impact of kink-phobia and polyphobia in clinical work, and identify areas where well-intended therapists may inadvertently cause harm. We’ll also clarify the ethical intersections between cultural humility, client-centered care, and the boundaries of scope of practice to create a therapeutic environment that truly welcomes individuals across the spectrum of sexual, relational, and gender diversity.
Guest Presenter: Rachel Anne Kieran, Psy.D. Expert in sexual, gender, and relational diversity, including sexual and affectional identity/orientation, transgender issues, queer theory, BDSM and kink, polyamory, and other non-monogamies.
Skills: Creating inclusive healing spaces for marginalized sexualities, Informed therapeutic Consent, recognizing when to refer out, Differentiating Consensual Power Exchange from Partner Abuse
In this tenth segment of the training, we support partners in rediscovering the creativity, curiosity, and joy of erotic emergence.
You’ll revisit the transformative potential of goal-free sex and explore embodiment practices that help partners attune to the natural flow of Eros within their bodies and between each other. A central focus of this segment is awakening from the Performance Trance—a state of striving shaped by external ideals and rigid expectations that fuel anxiety, disconnection, and self-judgment. You’ll learn how to guide partners in shifting from performance to presence, and in cultivating inside-out pleasure pathways rooted in attunement, play, and authentic erotic expression.
As we enter the eleventh segment of the training, we turn our focus to helping clients tend their erotic gardens—nurturing embodied intimacy that can continue to evolve and thrive through all the seasons of life.
For many aging partners, the loss of familiar sexual scripts leads to disconnection or resignation. But when we shift from a goal-oriented model of sex to one rooted in sensation, presence, and attuned connection, eros can reawaken in expansive and life-giving ways. Through this somatic lens, we’ll reframe aging not as a decline, but as an invitation to deepen into a fluid, collaborative, and embodied intimacy that honors each season and stage of life.
Skills: Befriending, Creating a Sustainability Plan
This culminating class weaves together key learnings from the entire course, empowering you to embody and apply your skills and insights with confidence and clinical finesse.
We’ll explore the hallmarks of awakened intimacy, focusing on how to transform client challenges into pathways for growth, healing, and expanded erotic connection. The session integrates the psychospiritual dimensions of erotic alchemy, enriching your therapeutic approach. Through ritual, presentations, and individualized sessions, we will bring closure to this transformative learning journey and celebrate your professional and personal growth.

The Passion & Presence® Certificate Training is designed primarily for helping professionals—such as therapists, couples therapists, counselors, healthcare providers, and coaches. If you are not a licensed professional, please be aware that additional training or credentials may be required to ethically and legally practice sex therapy with couples. It is your responsibility to stay informed about, and comply with, the professional and legal guidelines specific to your region or field.
Even seasoned sexologists, sex therapists, and clinicians will find value in this training. It offers experiential methods for uncovering unconscious barriers to pleasure and self-expression—tools that go beyond traditional talk therapy. Practitioners who wish to deepen their work within a mindful, present-centered paradigm will appreciate the emphasis on awareness, embodiment, and exploration, rather than diagnosis or treatment.
This program equips you to address many common sexual issues that arise in long-term relationships. However, it does not cover treatment for out-of-control sexual behaviors (commonly referred to as “sex addiction”) or certain medical and pain-related conditions such as genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder or erectile difficulties.
Yes, you will learn valuable techniques and a perspective on sexuality that can enhance your work with individual clients. However, please note that most practice sessions involve role-playing as a therapist working with two partners, reflecting the program’s focus on issues that primarily arise in long-term relationships.
The Passion & Presence® approach is designed to benefit people of all genders, sexual orientations, relationship styles, and preferences.
If you plan to work primarily with kinky, queer, trans, or non-monogamous clients, we recommend pursuing additional specialized training in these areas. We are happy to provide resources and guidance to support your learning journey.
We ask applicants to apply so we can ensure a strong fit between what you’re looking to learn and what this training offers. The application process helps us understand your goals, how you plan to practice the skills outside of class, and whether our mindful, experiential approach aligns with your values and professional path.
Hakomi’s principles, skills, and spirit are a foundational influence on the Passion and Presence® approach. For this reason, if you have not previously trained in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy, you will be required to complete and confirm participation in a Hakomi Introductory Workshop before beginning the Passion and Presence training.

This training is a significant time commitment and is not self-paced. On average, you should plan to dedicate 11–15 hours per month (approximately 3 hours per week) to the program. This includes:
Please carefully consider your availability before applying.
This is a live, synchronous virtual training consisting of 34 real-time classes, supplemented by recorded video and audio content from Maci and other experts.
While classes are recorded for review, consistent live attendance is essential. Many key learning experiences—such as breakout groups and experiential exercises—can only be accessed during the live sessions.
Yes, all classes are recorded. If you miss a session, you are expected to watch the recording and recreate the practice session on your own—ideally with a practice couple or peer. Many key learning experiences—such as breakout groups and experiential exercises—can only happen during live sessions, so regular attendance is essential.
We recognize that life events—such as weddings, family reunions, or illness—can occasionally prevent attendance. For this reason, you may miss up to six live classes (or 24 hours) over the course of the program if you want to receive a certificate of completion. In all cases, you are responsible for making up the missed content and completing the experiential work independently.
You will have lifetime access to the training materials and recordings, provided you complete the program. If you withdraw before finishing the training, your access to the learning portal will be discontinued unless you have paid in full.
Home Groups offer a supportive and consistent space to explore your personal responses to the course material throughout the program. These peer gatherings foster deeper connections with group members and provide a reliable place to “land” between segments. You’ll also use this time to practice the interventions introduced in the course with your Home Group peers. These practice sessions are a vital part of building confidence and developing proficiency in applying the Passion and Presence model with clients.
If you need to miss a Home Group session, please notify your group leader in advance. If more than one member will be absent, the group should consider rescheduling to ensure enough participants are present for meaningful practice.
While you may miss up to six Home Group sessions throughout the training and still qualify for a certificate of completion, we strongly encourage you to attend every session, as these meetings focus on processing the material, personal discoveries, and practicing specific interventions.
Upon successful completion of the program and meeting all requirements, you may call yourself a Passion & Presence® Practitioner. To become a Certified Passion & Presence® Practitioner, you must:
Yes. We offer a 15% tuition reduction for BIPOC participants. You may request this scholarship as part of your application process.
Licensed helping professionals may be eligible to earn CE credits through this program.
Please consult your local licensing board or regulatory body to determine whether they accept continuing education credits from AASECT-approved programs for license renewal.
A one-time fee of $175 is required for participants who wish to receive CE credits. This fee must be paid prior to the start of the program. To receive a certificate of completion for each of the 12 segments, participants must complete both an evaluation and a quiz for each segment.
Disclaimer: Completion of this program does not guarantee AASECT certification. To become a Certified Sex Therapist, additional coursework, practice hours, and 50 hours of supervision with an AASECT-certified supervisor are required. For more information, please contact info@aasect.org. Note: You must be an active AASECT member from the beginning of the program to apply these credits toward certification.
AASECT certification is available only to professionals from the USA, USA territories, Canada, Mexico, and Israel.
If you are a helping professional from another country and are interested in continuing education credits (CEs), please check with your local licensing board or regulatory body to see if they accept credits from AASECT-approved programs.
Unfortunately, no. The case consultations with Maci do not count toward the AASECT supervision hours. You will need to work with an AASECT-Certified supervisor to fulfill that requirement.
Once we receive both signed agreements, you’ll receive access to the online portal.
We recognize that many participants may have a history of trauma, and we strive to create a safe, respectful learning environment. However, because the course includes reading, viewing, and discussing sexual and erotic material, it could be triggering for some.
If you feel you might be triggered, we recommend waiting until you are further along in your healing journey before enrolling. If you’re uncertain, please reach out so we can schedule a conversation to discuss your situation and determine the best path forward. At a minimum, you will need a personal therapist or support person available to help you process any difficult emotions that arise during the training.
Please note that the holding deposit and application fee are non-refundable. You may receive a partial refund if you withdraw by the end of the second segment of the training.
After August 10, 2026, no refunds will be issued. We encourage you to carefully review our Financial Terms and Conditions to fully understand our refund policies.
Additionally, if you choose to withdraw, your access to the online learning portal will be discontinued.
There is a $75 application fee to apply, payable through Paypal.
